Abandoned Boxes that aren't Abandoned

From: Mary from Virginia (daughteroftheolddominion@yahoo.com) | Date: 2003-07-10 15:44:19 UTC
I did the search in VA by Abandoned Boxes and came up with a bunch of
boxes that belong to people I know are still active in letterboxing.
Then I did a search by the person's name and, sure enough, the boxes
are listed by the person's name. For instance, in VA, Let's Have a
Picnic is listed as Abandoned but when I searched for Tammy's boxes,
it shows up there. It is linked to Tammy's website. So how did it
get designated Abandoned? She obviously took whatever steps were
necessary to move the clues to the new site. Another example -- Top
Secret (in VA) is listed as Abandoned but is also on the list of
Knights of Columbo boxes and is linked to their webpage.

Let's not be so hasty to call a box abandoned.

Mary

In both of these cases, the box was probably transferred by the webmasters.
Then, the owner came along and entered their own copy, instead of claiming
the existing one.

Search by the box name to see what I mean.

Thanks for catching that Mary! I just went and searched and found
several boxes that are definately *not* abadoned. Also they do link
to websites with emails attached. A friend of mine who doesnt check
this list as often also had boxes listed.

The following VA boxes belong to Witchiepoo:

The Acorn Doesn't fall far from the tree
Remembering MK
Witch Way

This box belongs to Knights of Columbo:

Top Secret

Alot of people may not check this list too often or verify their
clues online and I for one wouldnt have been too thrilled to find out
someone had 'adopted' a box that I check on every few months.

Shell
Knights of Columbo

are the BirkieBob boxes in WI really abandoned? i noticed his email address
is on there ( birkiebob@att.net) ...has he been contacted to see if he is
truly done with letterboxing? his were some of our first searches and
they were being well kept up, even had notations from him checking on them.

ok, basically all of the boxes in cinci, oh are abandoned according
to this list...but i think what the webmaster is trying to do is to
get people to have the boxes assigned to them. a LOT of boxes in
cinci have the "webmasters" as the placer...now, is this a page
problem? or a boxer problem?

i dunno...but it's looking really suspicious that something "not
right" is going on here.....
